NaNoWriMo Update: Two Weeks Down!

We’re 2 weeks into NaNoWriMo!

I just unlocked the “14” badge for updating my word could 14 days in a row. (See my daily word counts here.)

Tomorrow marks the NaNo half-way point. Huzzah!

As I mentioned in my Winner post, although I already hit 50,000 words, my story isn’t quite finished. I still need the grand gesture / reconciliation scene. I also realized I needed a few other scenes to tie the story together. Those are the scenes that I worked on last night and tonight. And I’ll probably add another scene or two to flush out the story a bit more.

I’d rather have waaaayyyy too many scenes and have to chop some later on over struggling to write additional scenes later in the editing process.

I’m also writing these extra scenes to give my brain more time or percolate how I want to tackle the big scene. I keep hoping the male main character will give me a clue of what he’s going to do. Because I mean this is *the* scene. The iconic scene. The one scene everyone remembers.

The one that results in endlessly-referenced one liners (“You had me at ‘hello’.”)

The one that’s swoon-worthy (Richard Gere’s Edward Lewis climbing the fire escape).

The one with the musical declaration of love (Heath Ledger belting out “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”).

The one with the big rain scene (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams’ passionate lip-lock / “It’s not over” declaration).

Or the one that’s my all-time favorite, the one with no words needed to have an incredibly heart-melting moment that no actual man can live up to.

(Say Anything will always be my fave. Once upon a time, I even had this poster hanging in my college dorm room. Ironically, it was a male friend who gave it to me.)

So that’s where I am right now. Still writing.

I even started jotting down notes for the story I had intended to write this month. The flash of inspiration I had back in early October, the urban fantasy one. During another episode of NaNosomia last night, I had some inspiration for that story. So today, I took advantage of my new iPad, as I was playing around with the Apple pen in the notes app, and wrote down the two main characters, some of their respective bios, and the main thing the plot will be based on.

My brain is buzzing with words. It’s like I’ve opened the writing flood gates and all the stories that have been stuck in my head want to come pouring out, and all at once. It’s an endorphin rush laced with a side of anxiety.

Of course that could also be the copious amounts of daily caffeine I’m ingesting to stave off the mid-day sleepiness caused by said NaNosomnia. So there’s that.

Anyway, check back as I continue to post about by NaNoWriMo 2023 journey.

To day 30 and beyond! (Oh wait, wrong genre movie.)

Happy writing!
