This page is really more for me than anyone. But I thought some of you might be interested in keeping up with my daily totals (or sometimes lack thereof).

What is NaNoWriMo?

National Novel Writing Month is a fun approach to creative writing that began in 1999. The challenge: draft an entire novel, 50,000 words, in 30 days. NaNoWriMo has determined that 50,000 words is an achievable goal for anyone, even full-time workers. And although a book of 50,000 words is on the shorter side, it is long enough to be considered a novel. For example, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is approximately 50,000 words.

To achieve 50,000 words by November 30, NaNoWriMo recommends 1,667 words per day.

My first year participating in NaNoWriMo was 2008. This year, 2023, marks my 15th year of participating. I don’t always “win” (write 50,000 words) but I always write something. And I’ve blogged a lot about my NaNoWriMo experience. Find all my NaNo posts here.
