Still Writing: Mini NaNoWriMo Update

21 days in and I’m still writing!

Is anyone else amazed how fast this month, or rather this year has flown by? Didn’t we just have Fourth of July and now we’re bombarded by Christmas carols and getting ready for 2024?!

Anyway, I digress. For the next 9 days, I’m still laser focused on NaNoWriMo and writing.

If you’ve been checking out my word count stats, you’ve probably seen that my word count has varied recently. Like yesterday, I didn’t even crack 500 words. Two reasons: First, I’m on a mini vacation in California. For example yesterday, I got caught up in doing California things, like walking on the beach and generally enjoying the beautiful weather here.

Second, and more importantly, the story is basically complete. I’ve really moved into an editing phase where I’m walking through what I wrote, trying to make it flow, and fill in places that need some expanding.

When I get back home, I want to print the story. For me, it’s easier to get a sense of the whole story if it’s on paper where I can spread out the pages and chapters rather than trying to do it on the screen where I can really only see one page at a time.

Also, my friend has offered to read it. This is the first story I’ve written that I’ve considered letting someone read. But I think I might let them read it because I would like to get another opinion, maybe some suggestions on places that I’m not quite sure about.

In the meantime, I’ll still be adding to my daily word count until November 30, My aim is to get the final draft over 80,000 words, which works out to about a 300 page book. (Based on an average of 250 words per page.)

So stay tuned to see what my final word count is on November 30!
