Wyrd & Wonder 2024: Let the Games Begin

It’s May 1, which begins the month long Wyrd & Wonder fantasy celebration event!

This month I have a big goal to finish at least 10 of the 18 books on my Wyrd & Wonder TBR.

Yes, my TBR was 20 but I read two of them this weekend. Like a reading challenge warm-up. And since I’m terrible at following plans anyway, I’ll probably end up pulling other fantasy books off my shelf and read those instead of the TBR.

But I digress.

To finish 10 books in 31 days a big goal for two reasons. First, my reading has been sporadic this year. I’ve been up and down, suffering through reading slumps over and over. I went over two months without picking up a physical book. That’s unheard of for me.

Second, I hadn’t read a fantasy in three months (before this past weekend) and that book I read waaaaay back in January was an urban fantasy romance. So I consider that fantasy-light. The last true fantasy book I read, Witch King by Martha Wells, was back in mid-December.

I have never gone this long without reading fantasy. It’s almost like I don’t recognize myself.

But all that changes this month!

I will kick the month off with The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young.

Then I might dive into Among Thieves by M.J. Kuhn, but we’ll see where I go next.

(Check my Wyrd & Wonder TBR page to keep track of what I’ve read.)

I also have all four Fantastic 5 posts ready to go. I spent most of the weekend writing and editing these posts so I could focus on reading, reading, reading. So check back each Sunday to see which Fantastic 5 I picked for my comfort reads (5 May); reads outside my comfort zone (12 May); characters in their comfort zone (19 May); and my favorite cozy fantasies (26 May).

Let the games begin . . .

. . . And may the odds be ever in your favor.

  1. I hope you love all of these! I know what you mean about being all over the place this year. I’m right in the middle of the worst reading slump of my life. But I’m hoping that is about over lol.

  2. I love an ambitious TBR! My first few years of participating I always had a massive stack, but alas life gets busy and I’ve become a bit more realistic with my expectations lol. Still want to read all the books though!! I hope you enjoy all of yours.
