Gearing Up for Wyrd & Wonder 2025

I’m gearing up for Wyrd & Wonder 2025!

Held every May, Wyrd & Wonder is a fun and interactive event that focuses on all things Fantasy. The event is hosted by Annemieke (A Dance With Books), Ariana (The Book Nook), Jorie (Jorie Loves A Story), Lisa (Dear Geek Place) and me – imyril (There’s Always Room For One More).

This year’s theme is nautical fantasy. Of course, we’re not required to stick to the theme but it’s always an fun extra bonus when we can.

While I started this post over a month ago, I’m just now getting around to finish it. In other words, I’m a bit behind. Normally by this time, I already have my Wyrd & Wonder TBR stack ready to go and have mapped out the month.

This year, I’m at a bit of a disadvantage. First, because my household goods (which includes nearly all my books) aren’t here yet and won’t be here until the 12th. Second, because how is it nearly 1 May already?!? Between an international move, looking for housing, trying to learn a new language, and starting a new job, I’ve gotten off-track reading-wise.

So while I plan to participate, my participation will be a scaled down this year. (No fancy map quest adventures for me this year.)

What does scaled down mean? Right now, I’m not sure. I meant to get organized earlier in the month, but that clearly didn’t happen. Of course, I also expected my household goods to be here. Maybe still mostly in boxes, but at least in my possession. And clearly that didn’t happen either. The few fantasy books I have with me are not nautical. And I’m not sure any of my audiobooks fit the bill. I’m not a huge e-book reader, but I may have to see what I can check out from the library.

But like the sailors of ancient times, we shall sail on despite the overwhelming odds against us. So let’s set sail on the seven seas and see where this month-long adventure takes us.

If you have any nautical-esque fantasty book recommendations, please share them in the comments below.

    1. Absolutely! The theme is optional. And maybe the book’s theme is nautical, but maybe there’s a water sprite or a water mage in the story. So use that. But the theme is really just an added bonus. The month is about celebrating all things fantasy. And that includes not only books but TV shows, movies, games — whatever you enjoy!
