Here’s Why This Is My Favorite Movie Soundtrack

As a life-long musician, I am fascinated by music scores. Music has always played heavily in the theater arts, and some plays—musicals and opera—heavily rely on music to convey the story.

Consider that at the start of the movie industry, back when movies were still silent, a music was an integral part of the experience. Typically an organ, but sometimes a full orchestra (in the larger movie theaters which were often opera houses), would accompany the movie and help give context to the silent pictures.

Music has been an important part of movies ever since. And I for one believe a movie soundtracks can make (or potentially break) a movie. Continue reading

Friday Music Pick: The Record Company

I was a teen/young adult in the 90s, so even today, I tend toward listening to that decade’s music. I mean, don’t we all tend to love the music from our youth? And really, who could blame me—Nirvana, Hole, Alice in Chains, Veruca Salt, Garbage, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush—I mean, the list goes on and on.

Then the 90s ended and new millennium came and, well, let’s just say, I wasn’t as enamored with the music that came out of the first decade of the new millennium. And because of iTunes and SiriusXM, I continued to listen to all my faves from the 90s (Lithium is the main channel on my XM line-up).

But I’m trying to expand and listen to more modern bands. And as we’ve migrated to the end of the second decade now, I’m slowly starting branch back out thanks to artists like LP, Lady Gaga, Adele, and others.

Which leads me to today’s pick: The Record Company.

Spring Has Finally Arrive (Or Why I’m Dancing Today)

Today is the first warm day we’ve had since March roared in. When I took Dexter outside this morning, the temperature was already 55° and the high today is supposed to be a glorious 78°! Whee!

Since the weather is finally cooperating (thanks Mother Nature!), I feel like dancing. And one of my favorite dance music artists is Justin Timberlake.

Even better is the title of this song: Can’t Stop The Feeling!

[SoundCloud would only let me share a preview. But I hope it’s enough to get your foot tappin’.]

I hope you are having a great day. And if you’re not, put on some happy tunes and just dance until you feel it.

Today’s Song: Lost On You by LP

Music has always been a big part of my life. I’ve studied voice, piano, flute, and a little guitar. (And one of these days, I want to will take cello lessons.) I use music as therapy, as motivation, as a way to communicate. If I’m not listening to music, there’s still a song playing in my head. I have an internal jukebox.
