Well, I did it. I broke down and bought a new laptop. I’m not completely giving up on my iMac George. George still has some ability left—it’s just he couldn’t hold a wifi signal. I’d be surfing along and all the signal would drop for no reason. Full bars, no interference. It would just drop.
I tried all sorts of remedies to fix George. But to no avail. (Although I did stop short of wiping and reinstalling his OS. That’s just too much right now.)
So since I still have George, I opted for a Chromebook.
You might have noticed that I tend to name inanimate objects. I have previously mentioned Frank, my FitbBit, in this post, and in this other post, I mentioned George, my beloved iMac, Sunny the wireless router (the network’s name is actually Sunnydale2Neptune – bonus points if you get the references), and Wilberforce, my work laptop (he’s a PC, not a Mac).
Up until recently, I never used their names in front of anyone. I thought I was weird (which is true) and felt that other people probably wouldn’t understand. I mean, hey, I know I’m quirky. I have a hard enough time finding people who truly “get” me, so I didn’t want to add to the challenge.
So for years, I simply called my things by name in the privacy of my own home (or car). Continue reading
You may have noticed that my postings have not been frequent as of late. I have a good reason and it’s not because of March Madness. Or because of spring fever. Or even because of books (although books are a perfectly fine excuse, sadly, it’s not the case this time.)
